Should abortion based on physical characteristics be considered a hate crime?

It is. Abortion to me seems so awful, it's not the child's fault it was conceived, why kill it? At the same time, a child born of rape seems like an awful burden for an innocent woman. I want to see that burden as a gift from God, that something so beautiful and so innocent can come from something so evil and terrible as rape. My personal feelings and my political feelings are often at odds when it comes to this topic.

I am for freedom, but also for protecting the innocent.

I am for self determination, but against the murder of innocent children.

I abhor rape, but take issue with aborting a viable child.

Personally, I think that the rapist should be forced to pay all medical bills required of the mother to bring that child to term. Once born, the mother has the option to keep the child or put it up for adoption. If she keeps it, she can sue for child support like any other mother of an illegitimate child (granted, in such a scenario, the father would then have the ability to make a case for full or partial custody of the child, not that the father would win more than once in a blue moon), or she can put it up for adoption, or just raise it herself without any say or additional money from the father.
