Souness is spot on, if he isn't playing well you can't guarentee him a start

There will be a point when everyone is healthy that there will be better options than playing Rooney, Sturridge is the better lone striker and it's not inconceivable that 3 of Lallana, Barkley, Sterling, Ox and Walcott will be better options for the LW,RW and in the hole

Mind you Redknapp has never critiqued anyone he's shared a conversation with

Sturridge played well last year when Suarez was on his ban, but has he really proven he can be the main guy?

Not IMO. The stretch at the beginning of the season is not enough. Rooney has proven he can play well SEASON AFTER SEASON for quite some time now.

I agree, I don't think he'll ever thrive as the lone man up top, or really even as the top scorer in a two.

On another note, Souness is a fricking absolute idiot. His POV is archaic, and reeks of a player in the pre-premiere league era. His management strategy was even worse than that. He ran a very successful team built on the old boot room mentality into the ground. Jamie and Gary constantly butt heads with him, and if those two tell someone they're wrong I'm going to believe them. The guy murdered Sterling a few weeks ago for telling Hodge he was tired. He's the kind of guy who just doesn't understand modern sport.

He's a legend and b/c of that he thinks hes never wrong

At least he was a good manager at Rangers

When he said Liverpool would make the semi's of the UCL this year, I felt he went off the deep end.

Your right if Gary and Jamie disagree with you, then you are wrong. This debate was even more intriguing b/c you had 3 Liverpool legends going at it. They threw the club badge out the window when it came to England vs Scotland. I almost spit my water out when Souness tried to discredit Rooney's performance b/c Scotland has Championship players.

The idea that scoring vs Scotland isnt ridiculously impressive because he's against Championship level players is valid and true(Handley and Martin both play in the Champ), Scottish prem players typically move to the Championship or lower not the prem

If united beat Rovers in the FA Cup and Rooney scores two does it help solidify his legend status? No, that's him doing what he's supposed to do.

International legends are made in WCs and continental tourneys not in friendlies vs third tier rival countries
