My question has to do with aeromatics while smoking a bird. I've smoked a turkey both with and without aeromatics in the cavity. And to be honest I personally could not tell a difference in the flavor in the turkey. The time I did stuff the bird I used a chopped up Apple, celery, and a quartered onion. Anyone have any thoughts on what works for them?

TIA!

I wouldn't think you could tell any difference if you are smoking it. The smoke flavor would eliminate anything you might have gotten from putting an apple and onion in the cavity.

Do not think its necessary, I am going to do mine this year following the franklin bbq youtube video and see how it turns out.

I chopped up apples and oranges and put in the brine then stuffed in the cavity when put on the smoker.

Good idea Mpar! I've also heard of either putting some apple juice or orange juice in the water pan, 50% juice and 50% water. Never tried it tho.

doesn't the aeromatics serve a dual purpose in the sense that it creates more mass under the breasts thus helping prevent overcooking of the breasts and drying them out while the thighs get up to final temp?
