Two years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Ken Hatfield at the Paul Eells golf tournament in Little Rock. I made it a point to speak to him about a game he coached at Rice. At the time, Arkansas had fired him because his triple option offense was not sexy enough, even though he averaged around ten wins a year.
He ended up at Rice and took the triple option with him. They were playing La Tech in Ruston for a bowl spot in the season's last game. Tech ran out to a lead like 30-3 at halftime. At the half, Hatfield totally shelved the option and went with an 80% pass offense to come back and tie the game and send it to overtime. They lost anyway due to a holding penalty as Tech kicked a field goal in OT, but it was an amazing comeback.
I told Hatfield it was one of the best coaching jobs I had ever seen in person, since they totally reversed the offense at halftime. His response :

"Well, what we were doing wasn't working".

HELLO !

I'm sure there is a point to the this CSB?........

There has to be a point, right?

ETA: Very subtle brag on meeting Hatfield?

Ok, for those a little slow on the pickup. A good coach will make changes if what they are doing is not working. That simple enough ?

Your CSB would probably be more effective if Rice had won the game.

The same could be said about these types of idiotic post. Perhaps that is the point you're trying to make in this post?

So you think we should have continued to use the same philosophy that gained us about 100 yards in 3 1/2 quarters in the Arkansas game ? No changes in scheme or personnel ? Sure, that worked

He wasn't run off from Arkansas due to losing too much, they just got tired of the option offense basically.
I don't think he changed his basic offensive philosophy, but he did have a Plan B for when it didn't work.
Also, we sometimes over complicate things too much. Hatfield said it was a simple decision since Plan A wasn't working.

Good coaches do that.

I get what you are saying. I'm saying don't wait until you are coaching rice and down to la tech big before you change
