Dutch Village aka "Dementia Village"

Some caregiver decided to transform a small city outside of Amsterdam into an 'old folks village' as an alternative to a typical 'nursing home'. I think this is an awesome idea.

Today, the isolated village of Hogewey lies on the outskirts of Amsterdam in the small town of Wheesp. Dubbed “Dementia Village” by CNN, Hogewey is a cutting-edge elderly-care facility—roughly the size of 10 football fields—where residents are given the chance to live seemingly normal lives. With only 152 inhabitants, it’s run like a more benevolent version of The Truman Show, if The Truman Show were about dementia and Alzheimer’s patients. Like most small villages, it has its own town square, theater, garden, and post office. Unlike typical villages, however, this one has cameras monitoring residents every hour of every day, caretakers posing in street clothes, and only one door in and out of town, all part of a security system designed to keep the community safe. Friends and family are encouraged to visit. Some come every day.

That's a pretty cool idea. Seems like it gives them more dignity.

I had seen the CNN piece on it. They should have these all over the states, we just put my mother in law in the memory wing at a facility in Northern California. Reports are that she is happy, but everyday is Groundhog Day for her with the dementia.
My wife is so upset she is in a home, but it became too much for my sister in law and her husband to care for her

They are inside knitting or playing bridge. The old men are outside talking about the weather and the punk kids on their internet.
