What do you think about this graphic?

I actually like the idea of allowing a larger number of days to spaced out over the course of 8 years, but 480 for both parents is kind of ludicrous- mean that's 480 out of approximately 2000 days, per parent.
What would be a better number?
Maybe like 200 days over the first 6 years?

I lost count of days ive spent at doctors.
but my kid has special needs so I guess im different.

And what If you keep having kids?
I could move to Sweden and just knock up Inga and Elsa and be set.

and what if you have an octomom situation? 3840 days paid vacation over a span of 2000 work days?

I'd be poking holes in my own condoms.

If you want to be a mom, go to Sweden, they've perfected the surgeries and therapy.
Otherwise, let moms be moms and men be dads.
Geesh, really?

Sweden.. The land of glorious women and the subject of grand info graphs that progressives love to not understand

I read that as the parents get 480 days total, not each. So it's not like both parents can just take off the whole year.
It's no secret that most developed countries have more worker friendly vacation and leave structures than the U.S.

In that case it's pretty reasonable. Still, 480 would be a lot for a situation with a working dad and stay-at-home mom.

It is also no secret that these same countries do not have military on a line item in their budgets.

This is something we recently discussed at our office. Our staff is 94% male, and up until now we haven't offered any sort of paternity leave other than allowing them to take time off at their own discretion and use vacation days or sick days. We are a family business and try to treat our employees like family, and while we do that in a number of ways, I think we could improve on others, such as paternity leave.

Good for the Swedes if they can make this work (if it does actually work in the long run).
This would be an absolute economic disaster in the US.
ETA: probably should have read the graphic a little more closely. 480 days over 8 years for both parents is probably less nutty. Some variation of this with fewer days might be OK in the US, but I'm not too keen on FedGov trying to implement this.

What works in other countries obviously might not do the same here, but I would love to work for an employer that did offer this benefit. Sadly, mine does not for the father (not sure about what they do for moms).

Norway has a pretty sweet deal as well. The woman can take almost a whole year off with 80% pay.
My wife and I met some Norwegians during our honeymoon and we got in a discussion about maternity leave. The woman had 3 kids within 6 years. She was off of work for 3 years.
ETA: I guess it helps when your country is swimming in oil cash.

Reminds me of a regional union conference I attended about 25 years ago in Houston. The national president stepped up to the podium and basically the first words out of his mouth were - our goal is less work and more money.
I got up and walked out. So, I guess any one who is anti-labor would not be a supporter of this vacation option.

Fathers have a right to FMLA just like mothers. Don't know where they came up with that bogus claim.
Of course, you don't get paid for FMLA, but why should you?

I have a friend who lives in Sweden. He is currently enjoying a 6 month paid paternity leave with plans to have another baby soon.

I would go to the bar and knock up as many women as I can. I would have enough children to repopulate a small island.
