Should you go for 2 after scoring a TD up 1 late in the game?

You score the TD and are up 7. You kick the extra point and it's an 8 point game. Yeah.. The other team then has to drive and score a TD and covert the 2 points to sent it to OT.

If you go for 2 and miss it they still need to drive the field to send it into OT.

If you go for 2 and get it you're up 9 and the game is over for all intents and purposes.

Seems like a lot of reward for not much risk.

I like it, but the first time it fails and the team loses in OT the coach gets roasted.

There are lots of things coaches don't do that they should. It's a game based on tradition and the eye test. Math is not your average coach's strong suit.

Lol

Hell no.

You go up 8 and make them have to " score twice " in order to tie you.

Simple logic.

Yes.

Les obvious is that if you are down 14 late in the game and score a TD - you should go for 2.

1) If you make the 2 pointer, the next TD wins it outright with a 1 pointer and avoids OT.

2) If you miss it - you still have a shot to get into OT with a 2 pt conversion on the next TD.

Exactly.

Coaches who are losing a game late often play to not look like idiots rather than to win.

extra points are 97% in college and 99% in the pros, that's probably why

This is not good strategy

I guess it depends on your team. If you have a good running game or TE I would do it.
