I'll spend good money if they are comfortable.

Any recommendations?

TIA

Rockport or Ecco is the way to go. Ecco is a more expensive but they have a refurbishing deal for about $40.00 where you send them in and they practically remake the shoe or send you a replacement. You can find either of those at Dillard's. I wore Johnston & Murphy for years for the look of the shoe, my feet hate me for it.

Really? Do you have to have the proof of purchase?

I am a Johnston Murphy fanatic. I never had Allen Edmunds but I think its a step up from JM. Go to the store and the salesperson will tel you all about how the Shoe is built, differences etc.

I'm a fan of J&M and Cole Haan. Allen Edmonds look great, but you're going to pay well for it ($300+). Also, rubber sole shoes are more comfortable than leather sole shoes. The leather ones look better though

IMO no such thing. I put gel inner soles in every shoe I buy. Regardless of the cost they are never that comfy to my poor feet.

I really soured on Rockport after this last pair...definitely comfortable, but the durability was horrible.

Ecco is my choice. I have owned multiple pair of Ecco dress shoes (brown and black), hiking boots, sandals, and casual shoes. Most are in the $125 to $180 range.

They are comfortable right out of the box,and they last for years.

Dillards carries them. Once you get your size dialed in, you can order from Amazon or Zappos.

Socks are an overlooked issue when it comes to comfort. Smart Wool are my choice when I know I will be on my feet for a while. They make a huge difference. Most of their socks are rugged, outdoor models, but they have City Slickers and other dress styles.
