Is it time to drop the penny and nickle and round up or down a dime?

It would save the cost of minting the coins and what can you buy for a penny or a nickel? save the clerks time in counting out change.

If you paid with a debit card, no counting necessary.

I was thinking more in a brick and mortar establishment, like I go into the Quik Trip and get a cup of coffee and it's $1.07, hand the clerk $2 and I can tell they don't want to mess with counting out the change, maybe up or down a quarter.

Merchants would be all about it - but for the taxes. Taxes are always in percentages and they aren't going to round those down.

So, taxes are your answer.

Pennies are annoying so yes to those little pieces of crap.

When I get some pennies back in change I try and tell the cashier to keep it. If they still give them to me, I leave them on the counter, toss them on the ground on the way out or sometimes in the trash. They are pretty much annoying and useless, so yeah get rid of pennies

Yeah not exactly derivatives, IPO's, credit default swaps, etc. but I figured if I posted on another forum I would get the Money Talk shite so I put the post here but now that you're here maybe you'll share the definitive rules for posting on Money Talk.

me too. I really think they should round to the quarter. yes, you will get screwed out of a few bucks a year but so what?

It will be cheaper for merchants, easier for you, and less change to deal with.
