Senate Democrats are considering scheduling a vote in the lame-duck session to force approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, a party aide said, a move that may bolster Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu’s re-election battle.

The Senate Democratic aide, who requested anonymity to discuss the plans, said the vote was under consideration, yet specific language hadn’t been determined.

Casting a vote in favor of the pipeline may benefit Landrieu ahead of a Dec. 6 runoff, in which she faces Republican Representative Bill Cassidy. Congress returns tomorrow for a post-election session.

Landrieu, 58, chairwoman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has been attempting to distance herself from President Barack Obama on energy issues, including his reluctance to approve the pipeline.

Landrieu will face Cassidy in a run-off after neither won a majority of support in the Nov. 4 election. Even if Landrieu won, Republicans would take control of the Senate and she would lose her position as chairwoman of the energy committee.

Maybe they will do like the 1st time the Dems introduced a Keystone bill. You know, last second tack on restrictions on the coal industry and add about 5 more amendments and increases in budgetary spending on things having nothing to do with the pipeline.

Pure window dressing.

Without the house approving and a presidential signature, it's meaningless.

Is Landrieu even still running? I haven't seen a Landrieu commercial in a week, but have seen 1,000 Cassidy commercials.

She may as well bow out.

So...the ONLY reason Harry brings this to a vote is to save her arse, but when she had "clout," he didn't to a fricking thing?

Baraaq don't care. He's got a pen and a phone.

(The phone is really not necessary in this instance.)

SOOOO.....all the Dem's that lost their elections are now in favor of bringing up a vote that could have saved their jobs before the election, but now decide to bring it to the floor to save Mary's job.......I don't believe it.

I touched on this yesterday. Harry Reid, by holding bills many dems would have voted to pass, may well have cost some their jobs. He only allowed bills obama wanted to sign to go though and thus many dems had a 95%+ voting record with obama.

Hagan, Begich, Pryor and Landrieu, along with 7 other Dem Senators, all publicly urged Obama to approve Keystone back in April.
