Tarantino Done After 10

Quentin Tarantino has been talking about turning forthcoming feature The Hateful Eight into an event, and announced plans to potentially retire after his 10th film.
Speaking at the American Film Market – much of which Deadline has written up – Tarantino called his next film “a 70mm event” that will “remind people why this is something you can’t see on television and how this is an experience you can’t have when you watch movies in your apartment, your man cave or your iPhone or iPad.”
However, if the writer-director is to be believed, the film will also be one of his last…
“I don’t believe you should stay onstage until people are begging you to get off,” he explained. “I like the idea of leaving them wanting a bit more. I do think directing is a young man’s game, and I like the idea of an umbilical cord connection from my first to my last movie. I’m not trying to ridicule anyone who thinks differently, but I want to go out while I’m still hard. … I like that I will leave a 10-film filmography, and so I’ve got two more to go after this.
"It’s not etched in stone, but that is the plan. If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don’t screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career. If, later on, I come across a good movie, I won’t not do it just because I said I wouldn’t. But 10 and done, leaving them wanting more — that sounds right.”
That said, Tarantino was also joined onstage by several of his Hateful Eight cast, and two of them suggested that the retirement talk is premature, with Kurt Russell asking the audience “You don’t actually believe that sh*t do you?” and Samuel L. Jackson chipping in with the somewhat logical question “What’s Quentin going to do with himself if he’s not doing this?”

He also said that he hates that everything has gone digital and it doesn't make the craft of film nice anymore.
He said he would quit doing film, and do some series with digital since there's no more need for film...

he's only done 7 films? not sure why that is surprising to me but it is.

he is not calling an end to it after that film - he has nothing to prove, yet he is still making great films.

Tarantino has been on this 10 film thing for awhile. Goddard or Truffaut had a theory that an artist only really had a ten year window in which to get ones best work out, and ive heard him reference that idea before. Hes clearly modified it for himself.

Sounds like he is trying to manufacture the hype for how "big a deal" it will be when he does do an 11th film.

It will take him a decade to do those 3 films and by then he would be ready to hang it up anyway probably.
