Did LSU make the wrong choice picking defense in OT?

By picking offense/defense, it let Bama choose which side of the field they wanted. Bama got to play the OT period away from the entire student section and LSU had to play right next to all of the Bama fans and their band. It felt like they took Tiger Stadium out of the game.

I know it's very conventional wisdom to pick defense first, but is that really the wisest choice always? This is serious. I also think if we went first and kicked a FG, our defense would have played differently to not give up the TD.

I knew the game was over the minute they scored

It's bad that i had zero confidence that we would score in OT

I said the exact same thing.

If Bama scored the TD, game over. That's how inept Jennings and this offense is.

It's not even a choice, really. You do that every single time no matter what.

No. That call is a no-brainer. Not running the ball on the other hand...

I would have not been mad if we took the ball first. Even if we score a fg. It puts pressure on them to not lose yardage and play conservative to tie game on a fg. The game was over when we had to pass for a td

No. We weren't going to win in overtime regardless. Our offense isn't good enough to win red zone shootouts.

Absolutely the correct decison. We got the ball knowing we needed a TD. That takes away the question of whether to go for it on fourth. The play-calling knowing that was awful, though.

The only difference is LSU would've prob went for a FG so the final score would've been 20-16

Why aren't people talking about the uncalled procedural penalty on the trick play in OT?
