Military service question

I was just doodling around Wikipedia and came across an old mayor from San Antonio named Phil Hardberger.
He was in the Air Force and under battles/wars it listed the Cold War.
Is it legit for military personnel to list this as an actual war, or is he a politician trying to trump up his military status?

AF probably did surveillance type stuff? I don't know. I'd imagine AF had missions during the Cold War that the Army and Marines didn't if you know what I mean.

I hope you're not serious.

probably that, but a lot of people died during the "Cold War," and families are only recently getting the details of their deaths

Have never seen Cold War listed as a specific deployment/service. Quite odd.

That's what I thought.
I've never seen it before, I thought it was bullshite.
I mean, if I served in Iraq, Korea, Vietnam, etc, it would piss me off if some politician boasted about serving during the fricking Cold War.

Well after Vietnam and up to basically desert storm, there isn't much to list. So he is trying just say he made some effort to serve our country during some sort of conflict.

it shouldn't go on his resume but I wouldn't completely down play the service of cold war vets, as posted, many died in the line of duty, but due to the nature of their missions, and the tensions between the USSR and us, it was as if they just disappeared, and files are only fairly recently beginning to open up

It says he flew the B47 bomber which was a SAC bomber. Maybe he had a relatively direct involvement with some type of Cold War activity or something.

Some of which were in Afghanistan during that time with the rebels.

Easy there guys. The Cold War is an officially recognized conflict as per an Act of Congress in 2013 and has its own medal and ribbon. It is every bit as legitimate to list as service in Iraq or Afghanistan.
