How to handle bill from AC service company if nothing was fixed?

First of all, I hate service companies because you just can't trust em.
Anyway, my heater wouldn't kick on ok Monday so I had to call them out to look at it. They "fixed" it and gave me a bill of $100. Tried to turn my heater on this morning and it's the same as before.
So when I have to call them again, they'll undoubtedly want to charge me again for whatever even though the first time nothing worked.
Same thing happened with them back in 07 when they came and did some work but it failed a few days later.
What's the proper way of handling this?

Should have made sure it was working before they left.

dont they have a limited warranty on their service or something?

don't pay it until it's fixed.
gas furnace? they vibrate a lot and the connections get oxidized over summer. open it up and check all the connections. i've done this on two different units the past two winters--problems solved for $0.

It worked for one day and has been warm since.

They have to honor the work and come back out for no charge.

This. It is called a re-call. Always make sure a service company or plumber details the work they did on their invoice. If they have to come back out and make a repair on the same part, a reputable company will cover it. If it is a different part that breaks, they will charge you to repair that part, but usually will waive the service call fee.

Tell them what happened. I'm sure they'll waive the consult fee. Getting all huffed up before something happens.

Well, the repair was to clean rust and dust from the igniter. I don't know if it can be disputed that they cleaned it. But that didn't solve the problem.

but it worked for one day?
sounds like a bigger issue than dust on the ignitor

Sounds like they did what you paid them for, but that the problem may be bigger, and likely more expensive.

You gotta pay them to come out, 75 is average mobilization fee

They charged you to come out.
They didn't charge you to fix it.

not necessarily bigger. maybe just different (see my previous post). With one of my units, I had to fool with a connector two or three times. eventually cleaned it really well with steel wool and used plier to tighten the connection.
OP: look to see if your furnace has a self-diagnostics system. there should be a little chart defining what the red-light blinks mean (e.g., 3=pressure switch ("PS") stuck on--which means loose connector at PS).

Stop using that halfassed company for one.

yeah, but you aren't paying them to come out and not fix anything. why do you care if they "mobilize" if they aren't mobilizing to fix your problem?

Call a different company and get it fixed. Have them explain what was wrong. Then call the first company and tell them not to expect payment and explain.
Or fight the battle with company A and have them return and fix the issue.
