Good god he is pretty bad. Thank goodness ESPN does not put him on better games

I bet he will improve. He's great on the set. I like that they are giving him a shot.

Has he ever been in the booth before for ESPN?

I love him on set. Started out shaky as hell but love him now. At first he seemed to be really stiff and IMO kept his opinions way too conservative/noncontroversial. I knew he had arrived the day he gave Finebaum the business on national TV.

Is this his first year in the booth? Goodness gracious he sounds dead! That's not like him at all. He's basically whispering stats and shite in a monotone voice.

Just boring in every aspect. Desmond Howard, NIU post Jordan Lynch, MACtion as a whole this year.

Think it's his second year, pretty sure he called some of the MAC weekday games last year.

He struggles to talk nonebonically. Rather him talk normally than force the annunciations on everything. Still better than mussberger

Idk if guys use these games to get better or how the system works for moving up the chain, or if these guys even care about moving up. But i'd like to see these guys doing MAC show tons of emotion and excitement. Desmond is asleep.

It's pretty awkward to listen to, there are a lot of pauses and desmond sometimes sounds like he's a few feet away from the mike

Why is he talking so quietly? It's like he thinks he's calling a tennis match or golf.

I love football. I especially love college football. I love it more than many many things in life. However, having said all that, I still can't bring myself to watch these Tuesday and Wednesday night crappy-conference games. I have tried and I just can't do it. College football is NOT meant for those two nights. I almost feel bad for the schools in these conferences who basically prostitute themselves out to ESPN. They will do anything to get on the network, even if it means playing on Tuesday night.

Very easy for us to say this as LSU fans, but for these guys and I mean the fans, players, and families of the players that live further away, it means the world. It also allows for a school like Western Michigan or NIU to showcase themselves to the world for 2 hours. You say you love football. I would much rather watch a MAC, FBS football game than re run of whatever Sportscenter is currently watching.

Yes it has the feel of more like a high school game, but these games can float entire budgets, and the exposure for the university is unmeasurable. So yes it is collegiate prostitution, but better than the alternative I can assure you that. As a college student at one of these schools, its not hard to be told oh hey by the way you have a legitimate reason to get wasted on a Tuesday night. Like I said more of a high school feel, where the football players are less of celebrities and more like the dumb jocks from back in the day, not speaking for all.

When we were in C-USA, I remember playing TCU on a Tuesday night. Craig James was the ESPN analyst.

This 100%. These games are great, I like having football to watch all the time, even if passively. And it's not like they're bad games, most of them are very competitive because, like you said, this is the super bowl for a lot of the schools. It's prime time on ESPN when no one else is playing. It's a big freaking deal.

Having said that, jebus Des...did someone switch the coffee out for decaf? He either sounded like he didn't want to be there or was not prepared. Maybe it was a last minute thing? In any event, he was horrible which is shocking because he's always money on game day.

Oh...and beaver juice

Desmond has become really good on game day. I agree he was very stiff when he started but he is a real assets now especially with Corso having a reduced role

Besides Fowler, Desmond is my clear favorite on ESPN Gameday. I actually think he has good, well thought out opinions and he has a likable personality.

Took him a year to get comfortable being himself though.

It seems like ESPN is letting more and more of their TV personalities call games. Hasn't Chris Fowler essentially replaced Brent Musberger as their game of the week play-by-play guy?
