I'm considering 2 options:

1. Commcast XFinity Home
motion sensors
wireless router
wireless keypad
thermostat
cameras
lights
carbon monoxide
You can monitor from a keypad or phone plus cable and alarm for $129 / month

BUT, I'm really scared of their bad customer service reputation. And I couldn't understand anyone on the phone.

2. Keypad locks that you program to email or text you when someone comes in or out. $139 ea with small monthly fee. Just use Direct TV and ATT for internet.

This is a home I will probably end up renting out. Should I take a chance with CommCast ?

DO NOT GO WITH COMCAST. THEY ARE MISERABLE. We have Xfinity and hate it. We had to move houses and I had to talk to over 21 people before we moved and ended up having to take equipment out myself. Only got a response after letter to BBB. Finally came out to install system and 9 months later get a call that alarm was never set up all the while getting a bill. Took three different technicians to finally get it working on the third day I had to take off of work. It is also a three year contract. Save yourself the headache and use someone else.

Thank you - I really appreciate your advice. It seems like such a great deal, but with all the bad press lately, I was hesitant. Just to talk to someone on the phone, I had to ask to speak to someone in America THREE times because I couldn't understand the accent.

I think I'll buy all my own equip and monitor it myself. Thanks !!

you are going to monitor a rental home with cameras?
why would a tenant want you controlling the lights and thermostat

LoL Sorry - need to clarify. That sounded creepy. Cameras for outside. This would be a short term rental (it's a ski in / ski out house) and I would want to monitor thermostat and lights after renters left since I live in a different state.
