Politicians Addicted to Running for Office

I'm sure Lousiana has people like this too, but here in Alabama, we have a lot of politicians who just run for office cycle after cycle. If they lose the election for Lt. Governor, they run for Secretary of State. If they lose that, they run for State Auditor. Just habitual politicians who'll run for every office not matter if they are qualified for it or not.
What's the mindset here? Power? Can't keep a real job? Addicted to seeing their name on a sign?

I would liken it to something I heard Jim Palmer, P, Baltimore Orioles, say when he tried to make a comeback when he was too old to pitch. A paraphrase:
"When you are standing on the mound with all your teammates looking at you; all the players in the dugout looking at you; 40,000 fans in the stands looking at you. You realize that nothing will happen until you decide to pitch the ball. It's a feeling of euphoria that I didn't want to give up."

power and the adulation of seeing themselves in the spotlight of the party that supports them, yes, they start to believe their own BS and think they really are of that much value to the voting public.
It's not a local phenomenon, it's prevalent throughout the country, even worse in the yankee states where politicians like a Kennedy or Kerry become "blue blood" darlings of society.
