Apparently, even conservatives like the idea, the ones on this board notwithstanding.

All this shows is that most Americans are economically leftist, and that most republicans vote republican for non-economic reasons. 97% of economists oppose the minimum wage. I think I'll trust them. Wealth can't be created at a voting booth.
Minimum wage is similar to partial birth abortion. Large majorities oppose the latter, and large majorities support the former, regardless of party.
I do, however, find it interesting how Ny times assumes that the fact that Minimum wage has widespread support means that it is good policy.

Even conservatives are too stupid to understand why it is a bad idea. In Dallas In and Out burger has a big sign in the window "Help wanted $10.50 an hour". This is well above minimum wage. Markets should determine wage floors not government policy

Sherman, economic conservatives need to change the narrative by calling the jobs market what it really is- the buying and selling of labor. Only then can we convince people that MW is a price control on the labor market that distorts equilibrium.

It's already done in Ak. Supporters just put it on a ballot initiative so it can't be repealed.
Voters know as much about economics as they do foreign policy.

So an insurance ploy huh?

Shrubber, why do you think Sullivan is going to win? Supposedly begich has a legit ground game that will get hundreds of thousands of bush voters to the polls.

Exactly.. Labor is a commodity. Nothing more, nothing less. Instead of trying to get wage floor raised people should concentrate on increasing the value of their personal wage commodity value. I did and it worked.

People already know employers regard them as commodities, and they don't like it. Hence the minimum wage measures. The free market sounds great and all, but if you're the one getting punched in the face by the Invisible Hand of free enterprise, not so much.
Whether minimum wages are a help or a hindrance can be argued, but people who swear an undying allegiance to the free market in all circumstances will get some pushback from people who have been on the short end of it.

People applying for fast food jobs in Dallas like the invisible hand quite well and don't even want our president's 10.10 plan as it would cost them money. In Illinois where I live high school kids fight like hell to find Summer job because we have a shittey democrat economic with a minimum wage above the current federal level. This will hurt young kids and unskilled workers. Make no mistake here. This is simple economic basics.

There's nobody that was born and raised in this country who can make that claim.

What does it even mean to be "on the short end of the free market"? The free market is simply millions of people exchanging goods and services. To be on the short end of that means you must not bring value or goods to other people.

Seems to me that most people believe employers can pay employees whatever they want, so the employees get the "short end of the free market". But if that were true, why does any employee earn more than min wage?
Pretty sad that so many people think we have anything even close to a free market system.

Red state voters also like gov't handouts.
But we act like we don't know about that.

I agree that raising it is bad, but when you explain to a voter why it is bad, and he makes minimum wage, and he akses you "What's in it for me to vote against this?" what do you tell him?

I sure hope it isn't the wage paid by In n Out since they always pay more. Regardless of location. The rest of the fast food jobs don't pay that rate.

Alaska and Arkansas are what I would consider purple states. IDK enough about Nebraska or South Dakota.

That is the beauty of a federalist republic, each state can decide for themselves. The Nebraksa farmers just order more self driving tractors from John Deere.
