Advanced screening at a military installation.

I recommend it.

There's no way to measure the worth of this film using this metric.

All I can do is recommend it.

Thank you !!

My interest in cinema history and preservation makes me UBER cool !

Wiki says that Interstellar is being treated differently than most of the motion pictures today in that it's being distributed the old fashioned way with film stock. The industry is moving away from film stock and going to pure digital distribution.

I thought that was interesting when I read that.

IMHO there's going to be a wide range of percentage scores assigned to this film by individual viewers.

For example, the film is about three hours long, so, there will be many who dislike it for this reason alone.

If one makes a long motion picture, the unstated message I suppose is that the film has something very important say to us. The message to the audience is: This is a very important film.

I suppose that's why Erich von Stroheim's film "Greed" was about eight hours long -- he had a very important message to humanity about the destructive nature of "greed."

But, there were many viewers and critics of the film "Greed" who bashed Stroheim for being a bit looney -- how could any film's message be important enough to warrant eight hours of movie-watching?

So, any film that goes beyond the 90 minute to 120 minute standard is just asking to be criticized, it seems to me.

The good thing is this: on one of the planets in the film Interstellar, each day is 67 hours long. That means that on this planet, one could see the entire full length version of von Stroheim's "Greed" and still have plenty of time that evening for dining out.

Not at all.

This is an attention seeking thread with zero substance.

You have terrible ability to see yourself in an accurate light. You see yourself as some kind of monumental intellect. I assure you that this is inaccurate.

You actually believe that you prompted me to update my own thoughts in my own thread? What intoxicating vanity you possess !!

Why don't you just fade away from this thread, now that you've embarrassed yourself?

Don't take Dylan Thomas's advice about resisting your passing away.

Take my advice. Just go away gently into the night.

quote:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Did it change your life? Can Nolan now be considered the GOAT director, even better than Hitchcock and Murnau?

I'll be honest man. I didn't mean to get you this upset. You just needed to make your thread worth reading and now we got there.

Have a great day and GO BILLS!

Such a little bitch you are. You are the only poster who misinterpreted this thread. Way to be the dumbest in the room.

Not for me personally.

But, Nolan's effort here is an effort to be respectful of the notion that cinema can be life-changing.

Mr. Nolan's effort here doesn't seem preachy or vain to me in any way.

It could be a film that people like FW Murnau and Hitchcock would very much like, even though "Interstellar" is not like a Hitchcock film and it's not like Murnau's gothic/horror work, such as "Nosferatu".

"Interstellar" is complex, three hours long, deals with theoretical physics and issues dealing with our human nature. It's a "big" film. It's going to be tough for anybody to write a comprehensive commentary on the whole thing. Everybody will note that, even though I've written a lot in this thread, I haven't written anything about the plot or characters or special effects.

There are a few critics who agree that it is "big" but they say it will be a "big" flop.

IMHO, even if it is a box office flop, there will always be a niche/cult following.

Leonard and Penny can double date with Howard and Bernadette to see it. They'd enjoy that evening and talking about the film later.

If you had started with this in your 1st post, this thread would have gone a different way FWIW.

LOL it's a Nolan movie. There's literally a 0% chance this flops.

I regret that a recommendation to see a film has caused such distress to some.
