Anyone else think the guillotine is the most humane form of execution?

Nice, even slice.....Not 20 minutes of moan and groan.

Depends on how sharp the blade was.

There are some studies that the head remains conscious for between 9 and 20 seconds. It will blink, look up when the name is called, and try to talk.

9-20 seconds vs. 9-20 minutes.

Here is one of many.
quote:
Both King Charles I and Queen Anne Boleyn are reported to both have showed signs of trying to speak following their beheadings
quote:
Perhaps most famously was the study conducted by a Dr. Beaurieux in 1905 of the head of executed criminal Henri Languille. Over the course of 25 to 30 seconds of observation, the physician recorded managing to get Languille to open his eyes and "undeniably" focus them on the doctor's twice by calling the executed man's name

Cannonball to the face.

Well, the brain doesn't just shut down just because it's been removed from the body. It shuts down due to lack of blood circulation. This means there's a window of time where the head is conscious, just like you'd be conscious after heart failure.
So I don't think guillotine is very humane at all, probably as humane as a bullet to the chest.
I don't know why it's so difficult to find a humane way to kill someone, though. Just give them drugs that put them out of consciousness, and then use the quickest method while they're out.

Shotgun to the face should be how America handles executions

You ever seen a guillotine before?

Falling. Whatever. What is humane about it?
Posted on 11/2/14 at 4:51 am to eldouchebag
Of the forms of execution, it's quicker than most and hard to screw up.

I get that, but the fact that the person's head is coming off kind of makes it hard for me to classify it as "humane". Lol

Your objection has been noted.

Just introduce some carbon monoxide into the cell during the night when they sleeping.

I find it hard to say chopping someones head off is humane.
