I am with you. Cats are bad arse. I love dogs also but if I go out of town a cat is fine. You have to make plans for someone to take care of the dog.

I usually just keep one. More than 2 is too many.
I like having one around. Kill snakes and rats and it is not that hard to train them to go to the bathroom outside so you dont have to frick with a litter box. I used to be anti cat, but after having one, when it was gone, I got another. Both have been great pets with little to no work and don't ever bother me unlike my 2 dogs can. 2 dogs 1 cat.
