In the market for a GoPro. I feel like if you live in Alaska and do not have a GoPro, you're doing it wrong. I have done some research and have just about narrowed it down to the gopro hero 4 silver and the gopro hero 3 black. Good Link showing comparisons

As seen in the picture below, the price difference is only 50 bucks brand new.

As you can see in the pictures the Hero 4 silver and the Hero 3 black are pretty comparable with only a few differences when you look at the specs.

The main difference and what is making me consider spending the extra $50 is that the Hero 4 Silver is the only model which offers the LCD touch screen.

I really like the idea of having the LCD screen being that it offers the ability to actually see what your shooting. Therefore at this point, I'm leaning towards the Hero 4 Silver.

So, OT'ers feel free to share any input you may have with either model or if you want to tell me that I'm an idiot and that my life isn't interesting enough to justify getting a gopro, well then that's fine too. All comments are welcome.

Have a nice day and go eff yourself!

tl;dr I'm looking for a gopro. don't need the hero 4 black but am trying to decide between the hero 4 silver and the hero 3 black

With what you posted I dont see how you would go wrong by getting the 4. There seem like there are not major benefits to getting the three except maybe cheaper batteries?

I have the GPHB3+ and a buddy has the 4 silver, both are good. I really like the screen and it functionality. Go for the 4, it has a couple extra features for only a few more dollars. What are you going to be filming?

Are you going to fly it? I have a friend that does this and the results are amazing.

4 silver is the only that come with the touch LCD screen on the back, but can be bought for other models. All go pros have a small LCD on the front of the camera to access settings.

Go with the 4 silver.

I don't care about the screen because the camera is always mounted to something where I wouldn't be able to see the screen anyway. I wifi the image to my phone and can see what I am filming from there.

Any of the first three shoot in 4k. That's impressive, I didn't know the GoPro's did that. Where will you be uploading your videos too?

I don't believe youtube can handle anything above 1080. Vimeo, however, is known for their better quality streaming. Perhaps, if you go with the cameras with 4k, which is a great choice, then you should stick with Vimeo!

What do people use Go Pro's for?

What makes them special apart from your normal digital camera?

I went to Alaska last year and was very impressed, was a beautiful place and there was a surprising amount of talent in the Anchorage area
