Washington Post

quote:

WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy grew at a solid annual rate of 3.5 percent in the July-September quarter, propelled by solid gains in business investment, export sales and the biggest jump in military spending in five years.

The Commerce Department says that the third quarter result followed a 4.6 percent rebound in the second quarter. The economy shrank at a 2.1 percent rate in the first three months of the year due to a harsh winter.

The report was the first of three estimates of the gross domestic product, the economy’s total output of goods and services. Economists believe the economy is maintaining momentum in the current quarter with consumer spending expected to be helped by a big fall in gas prices.

Damn, NHTIGER nailed it:

Speaking of the economy, tomorrow morning the BEA announces the preliminary estimate of 3rd Quarter GDP.

The Dems are hoping for an October surprise of about +6%. They will likely have to settle for about +3.5%, not enough to sway any votes.

Is this Bob Beckel's October surprise?

FWIW Ebola is on the minds of Americans a lot more than GDP.

I heard Obama called The Commerce Department and forced them to end the 3rd quarter at the end of September.

I am sure the GermX sales from the ebola fallout helped.

Yeah, I've been waiting all month for his surprise. Of course we still have two days left. May be the surprise is no surprise.

Beckel's surprise is that he lives through October. The guy doesn't look healthy.

So on average we have had a 2% growth with a large part of the growth in the 3rd quarter coming from a ramp up in military spending. Hardly a ringing endorsement for Obama and his economic policies.

So Obama's answer to stimulate the economy is to shoot million dollar plus missiles at $15,000 Toyotas?

Whatever works I guess.

Yep. Ebola and ISIS...and...OPEN BORDERS!

Will be interesting to see if Obama does and EO/Amnesty in the Lame Duck session...and lets tens of millions of Illegals in. Might be good to get all the Dems, Hillary, et al on the record, for '16.

Will furthermore be interesting to see if the economy continues to expand as the Republicans run Congress. Wonder how the MSM would deal with that!
