Last time I looked the government didn't run the NCAA and didn't force teams to members of it.
University of Georgia is the government. They are complicit in all this.

How do they have that authority? What crime did he commit?
You are confused. They don't have any authority to force him to do it. However, they can stipulate the requirements if he wants to play in the NCAA again.

Is that not absurd?
It is definitely absurd.

So if the school involved was Notee Dame, Miami, or Tulane how would the government be involved?

We're talking about the University of Georgia which is run by the government.

What is a travesty is the Mr. Crablegs has signed over 2000 items for the SAME FIRM as Gurley and he hasn't even so much as missed a practice. The NZAA is such a joke.
Unless I am mistaken, Mr. Crablegs missed the entire Clemson game.
But ... that may have been for another reason.
With Mr. Crablegs, it is hard to keep up.
Do these guys get paid cash? If yes ... it'd be better to do community service than possibly have the IRS come calling.

I was just curious what you would say if it involved a private institution.

The Clemson suspension was for his escapade in the commons area.

Probably one of those bargain deals - "you do this (community service) and instead of being suspended permanently, we'll drop it to 2+2 games"
