yeah, its really the only reason to keep PBS around. Frontline could never find a home on cable IMHO. its a huge money suck, ratings are pretty bad and really pisses off a bunch of people.

That's disappointing...it's maybe the best long form news mag show on the tube.

but I'm really having a hard time understanding why the whole planet isn't involved.

Really? The "planet" has stood by and watched far worse.

i tend to agree.

I do not support PBS, but the relative who makes this argument makes a good case. We are better off with frontline. he also includes PBS kids in that, which I would agree but I think that would find a home as a subscription service.

coincidentally the wife has an interview with PBS today.

You don't. You let them sort it out. Our involvement only delays and prolongs the conflict. Civil wars of all stripes end only when one side fully prevails or the two parties beat each other into a compromise.

Such as whom/what in the last 20-30 years where terrorists are taking over COUNTRIES/large swaths of land, killing at leisure, destroying infrastructure?

Way to narrow it down...why don't you also say in "Iraq and Syria only"?

But you can look through history - Cambodia, Liberia, Sierre Leone, Congo, Rawanda, Afghanistan (until 9/11), Somalia, Angola...I'm sure I'm leaving off others. Also, if Saddam Hussein hadn't invaded Kuwait he'd still be slaughter Kurds and Shiites and probably using US $$$.

And I don't know why you would dismiss Sudan (Darfur). It's a genocide.

Based on last night's report, I found this interesting from HuffPo:
quote:

Less than a hundred miles away in Aleppo, non-extremist Syrian rebels say they may be wiped out by Assad's forces. This time, the ally withholding help for political reasons is the United States.

U.S.-backed Syrian rebels, described by the White House as essential partners in the fight against the Islamic State, say they are in the fight of their lives in northwestern Syria – and that without immediate assistance from the U.S.-led coalition, they will be weakened to the point where they will be of little use against the extremists. They warn that unless aid – particularly in the form of weapons – arrives, there could be a mass slaughter of civilians, along with a milestone recruitment moment for ISIS.

But that assistance looks like it will never come through.

Despite what all my Republican brothers say the simple truth is that Frontline is neither liberal or conservative but simply tells the GD truth and doesn't give a shite who they piss off or who doesn't like it. They take the time to get the real story and not just the popular narrative. We used to just call this news. Good luck getting it now. The only show I trust. When they are leaning one way they at least acknowledge it or it is clear.

Their series on the War on Drugs is the best shite you will ever see on TV. They interviewed everyone from Achoa brothers on.

There's been some fascinating Frontline programs in the past. One of my favorite was about Mark David Chapman and his fascination with "The Catcher in the Rye." They revealed it was also a favorite of John Hinkley Jr.

This novel remains controversial and is almost the bible for rebellion among post-war U.S. young men.

The administration dropped the ball on this so bad. They knew that POS in charge of Iraq would cause issues.
