pretty neat video. I had not seen it before

if the 3pt line was in play, maravich would have averaged about 57 pts per game during his pro career

ETA: and approx 13 3pointers per game given the distance of many of his jumpers

Ich glaube, das Thema wurde schon mehrmals auf TD gebucht. Bitte versuchen Sie es zu bleiben, oder wir müssen die du hinterlässt, wie wir tun die meisten Menschen aus Mississippi.
Danke.

I have heard this before about Dale Brown doing a shot chart on all his games and I don't believe it. The math doesn't add up. For Pete (who was the greatest)to average 57 ppg, instead of 44 ppg, that means that 13 of his made baskets (or 26 of his 44 ppg that he did have) would have been behind the current three point line. That doesn't even account for his many free throws he made.

For the sake or argument, let's say he made 8 free throws per game. (One game he made 30, so I am being conservative.) 44ppg (his avg) minus 26 long 2-pointers that would have been threes in todays game minus 8 free throws leaves only 10 points left or 5 made baskets per game inside the current three point line. I call BS.

Hey fellas, y'all realize we actually seem to have a solid football team this year? They beat a pretty dang good team Saturday. Holler if you need the 411.

Can you only focus on one sport at a time?

Sucks to suck.

I understand your math, but holy shite I hope your not a math teacher because you are confusing.

I'll help:

8 Free throws leaves 36 pts. or 18 2-pt buckets.

To add 13 pts per game would leave just 5 2-pt buckets. So 13/18 shots he made would be 3's.

Tough to believe. But lets remember that 44 was his average, some games he scored 60+.

Who knows.

Of course it's been said a million times but he was the best basketball player I ever saw, no disrespect to the Jordan's, Bird's and Magic's of the world. Had he not blown his knee completely out in his late 20's he would have set professional records to rival his college ones. The greatest pity of all is that he never played on a really great team until he got to the Celtics after the blown knee.

Caterpillar, I knew that would be confusing and I am not a math teacher. Thanks for cleaning it up. Probably what happened was Dale looked at a game or two and charted and said, "Wow! Maravich would have had 57 this game if only there had been a 3 pt line."

I saw him play once....
he left you wondering whether you had really seen had he had done or if you just imagined it...

the best offensive college player ... not even close.

Did it ever occur to you that if there were a 3-pt. line, perhaps Pete might have taken a step or two back on a few of his shots to get the 3 instead of the 2? Or, instead of dropping off a tricky pass to a teammate, he takes even more 3-point attempts?? Or, if fouled while shooting the 3, gets 3 foul shots instead of 2 at the line?

This is absolutely true, but is not the same crap I've been hearing for years about Dale charting all the games and it would have been 57 ppg.
