His prime was before I regularly started watching soccer so I don't think I can give a fair opinion

ETA I ask this simply because Kahn was the only goal keeper to even come close to winning in modern times at lease....and well Ronaldo again
That's what I figured. But it was also just recognizing how underrecognized keepers and defenders are. But I think Neuer's pretty rare in how good he is at all aspects of his job - shot stopping, command of his area, distributing, sweeping. It's impressive

Apparently at the LFP awards yesterday, not one player from Atletico made the La Liga Best XI

Did they even announce a Best XI yesterday?

No doubt....harder for keepers to win than defenders though unfortunately.

I didn't see a listed best XI specifically....Costa was in the top 3 for forward and maybe player of the year I think. I think some people here are just mad that Diego the Explorer didn't win either of those.

I'm the biggest Jurgen fanboy but why he's on there is really beyond me. He had a good run, but it's nothing we haven't done before. I guess when he does people notice? If anything, I'd be more okay with it as a shoutout for his place in the German "revolution" than a run to the round of 16. I mean, we've had a really awesome run, and I think we'll do awesome things under Jurgen eventually. He hasn't done anything on the level of what those other cats have done, though.

Absolute bullshite. Even with all of the missed time after the World Cup, he completely dominated last year. And some of those Germans can't sniff his jock and wouldn't be there if the team didn't win the World Cup.

Outside of Gotze, I think this is a pretty big stretch. First of all, he's been hit with a pretty intense ban so that probably worked against him. Yeah, Suarez played really well in the league last year, but it's a bit absurd to discount the German players because of it. They won a World Cup in a pretty dominating fashion. Up until the Final, they had very little opposition. Not to mention, the Bayern team they played for in the league was so dominant it was stupid. Outside of Gotze, all of those guys have solid cases of being there. You can't just say "Oh, they're just there because they won the World Cup." That's not exactly an easy thing to do, and they pretty much ripped the tournament the frick up. You can't just forget about that. Performing on the highest stage at the level they did deserves a shout, especially over a guy who can't quit assaulting people.
