I made an appointment with the genius bar to get them to run a diagnostic test on it. It has been running very slow and freezing a lot. Does anyone know if it is free at apple for them to just wipe it clean and restore it?

Mine has been acting the same way lately. Did you recently upgrade to Yosemite and turn on FileVault? I'm pretty sure that's what is slowing my laptop down, it has been "encrypting data" for 4 days now and it's just stuck on 98%.

I researched it a little and a bunch of people are having the same problems.

Unfortunately, from what I gathered, the only way to fix it is to let it run its course but who knows how long that'll be.

Damn. Spinning Disk or SSD? My Macbook Air took about 20 minutes to turn File Vault on, my Mini with an almost full 500 GB HDD took about 45 minutes.
