In past postseasons during the World Series organization teams weren't allowed to make any major announcements regarding their respective clubs to make sure the World Series was the main focus. MLB has completely dropped the ball this postseason because all of the larger market franchises either didn't qualify for the postseason, or had their team choke like MOFO'S (looking at you Cardinal fans). My understanding was no significant announcements could be made during the postseason, especially the World Series, and today the announcement of Joe Maddon's leaving the Rays is the lead story on MLB.COM. frick MLB for not taking the opportunity to capitalize on small market teams having success. When the Royals win the World Series you aren't invited to our World Series parade, and will not be getting any of the profits from the movie we make about this postseason.

Wall of text.

That being said, he left, what do you want them to do? Cover it up?

Wait until the World Series is over

The NFL does do an incredible job in marketing the Super Bowl as a premier event, but MLB treats the World Series it's most significant event like a regular season series. Joe Maddon is an a-hole too for not taking the time to realize this, and sucks for walking out on the Rays like he did.

I'm sure the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' 6700 season ticket holders are crushed about this news. Why would anybody else be upset though? Dude is a character who is good for baseball and there's a good chance he'll be spending 81 nights a year outdoors instead of that dungeon of horrors.

You mean like when Boras announced A Rod was opting out literally right before Game 4 of the 07 series started, which included the Red Sox?

List of selfish people associate with MLB

Bud Selig- For trying to kill the ability of small market teams to compete with larger markets by putting a cap on player bonuses in MLB draft/ limiting amount of money teams can spend internationally
A-Rod- For being a cheater, selfish, ....
Joe Maddon- for being selfish, and not ever winning anything of importance

Would you like examples of small market teams being hampered by the newly implemented draft pools? Look no further than the 2014 MLB draft when the Astro's couldn't sign their first round pick due to having to pay a luxury tax, or forfeit future draft picks for exceeding their allotted bonus pool. Selig is a shithead end of story!
