If he wants to be cost conscious and get good use out of the gun I would recommend getting Tikka T3/Ruger American chambered in .308. Ammo is cheaper for messing around and still a good caliber to take down deer and hogs

If he is an average frame guy or bigger then: 7mm, 30 06, 270, or 308.


If he is has a small frame: 243, 7mm 08, and 25 06.



Lots of choices.

I passed up a chance to buy a Savage Model 110 in 30-06 because I didn't want to drive an hour and a half to get it. Did I make a mistake?
