At what point do the annexations mean that the city is no longer using more than what is collected from within the city limits?

Let me be clear, I have no problem with the city using a higher percentage of the money than they pay themselves as taxes.

I consider the city to be an asset to the Parish, and I am OK with subsidizing some of their expenses.

One guy here said they only pay 10% of the parish wide services while the other areas outside the city pay 90%; however, others (Russian) disputed that number so it may not be correct.

I would like to know what that number really is and if the city pays just 40-45% of the expenses and others pay the rest; I'm fine with that.

Do you know what that number is?

FWIW, I never expected to get a dollars worth of services for every dollar I pay in taxes. Our system doesn't work that way.

As for the annexations, its all about politics. And I can understand why these business interests are doing what they are doing. They feel its best for their bottom line in the long run.

Like I said before CATS will benefit the most from all of this. I'm not sure the city will unless SG becomes a reality.

Don't really understand why people are so opposed to change. It really is pathetic.

I want St. Georgians to have what they're clamoring for, along with the leadership behind it.

Sure it is. You made a blanket statement about not understanding why people hate change so you apparently believe any change is good. It's not.

Do you honestly believe the SG issue will stop if the city ends up being squashed? The issues still exist. EBR parish schools are abhorrent. That is the reason the whole SG formation started. Getting better neighborhood schools for the children of BR.

I voted yes, they asked for a smaller millage, the current one was too much; and I think they do a good job for the entire parish.

Are you in district 8 for school board????

I don't. I think it's a 'feel good' program that has negligible impact on mosquitoes. Mosquitoes this past summer were the worst we've ever had where I live.

And the existing tax doesn't even expire until the start of 2017 so I'd love to see it fail just to make the tax-happy politicos sweat a little and at least make them have to bring up again for a vote in a year. But it will pass by 2-1 because of voters like you.

Just once, ONCE, I'd love to see one of these tax renewals fail.

Besides, voting NO on these dedicated taxes is my only way to protest BREC and Library excessive taxes.

In my area the mosquito abatement seems to work. I've been happy; however, I can certainly understand your position.

I'm in 8, first time I voted in 8. Bailey got my vote. I hope I made a wise choice.

And I hear you about the stealth, parish-wide bodies. They are almost stand alone organizations that just seem to go along their mmerry way and as long as they do a few things no one cares where all that revenue goes that they collect.
