It'll ruin collegiate athletics, but that what you get when you make millions off free labor for 40+ years.

Who is making the millions and what are they doing with the money?

And don't just say "NCAA". Specific people or positions.

They get a free education, that's plenty enough.

In other words, they got screwed twice at UNC.

The few big schools with large amounts of cash will rule college football.
So...that would be different than today's landscape how?

So because they'll want more your solution is to give them nothing ?

s to give them nothing ?
[/quote]So you think the value of a 4 or 5 year college education at Texas, LSU, Vanderbilt, etc is "nothing"? Do you want to withdraw your stupid question?

while the players never see a single cent?

Last I checked these players are getting to go to college for free only because they are good athletes.

At the same time you have very deserving a smart students going into student loan debt because they have to in order to go to college.

I don't buy the entire notion of athletes not getting paid anything. Having your tuition paid for is a great deal of money.

I assure you there are a lot of good and very smart students that have to drop out of college for financial reasons that would love to get what these athletes are getting.

I think if they get paid they should have to pay full cost of tuition out of their own pocket.

The only catch was that’s not what he said.

According to Texas spokesman Nick Voinis, Patterson was asked during a college athletics forum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday what it would cost athletic departments if the NCAA loses all of its appeals related to the Ed O’Bannon lawsuit. Patterson, like many other athletic directors who have spoken about the case, said the most likely result would be paying each student-athlete a cost-of-attendance stipend of $4,000-5,000, in addition to $5,000 in a licensing trust for each player.

But because all of those appeals are still pending, UT has no plans to start paying players now. And if the NCAA loses those appeals, the Longhorns would not be the only program paying $10,000 per student-athlete. Most major programs would do so.

I would imagine most schools will only pay football. Some basketball schools perhaps

Nah he is probably serious. You guys know that the NCAA is a nonprofit and their financial statements are public right? You would be really disappointed to know that the billions of $ go to...........scholarships

They get stipends as well. Plus tons of free stuff and privileges normal students don't have access to. College football players are treated like kings.

well, one problem is the facility arms race that goes on at the big schools. with all their extra cash, football factories use gold plated chairs and diamond encrusted silverware to lure kids to their school, since you know, they cant pay the recruit directly. but im sure those chairs are comfortable as shite!

crazy, huh?

i, as huge football fan, am awfully conflicted with the idea of paying huge money to the athletic dept for rights to buy football tickets and then actual football tickets, and the athletic dept using excess funds from football to turn around and give some swimmer a scholarship.
