basic elmers island surf fishing questions

We are heading down to GI this weekend and are looking to get in some surf fishing saturday morning.
We typically are located near the middle of GI and fish the rocks as we wade out. We want to go and try elmers but literally know nothing about the area.
Do you do better fishing the gulf side or the bay side or does it not matter?
Can you fish from the side of the bank.on those little cuts.or do you have to wade out in order to have real success?
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

Rent a Kayak from Bobby Lynns and fish the mars on the north side of Hwy 1 between Fourchon and Grand Isle. Pop a cork in and around the marsh and youll do good

This time of year, you'll have better luck fishing the canals that lead out to the gulf side along the Elmer's roads.
Heard of guys doing well at night along the gravel road as well

Thanks guys, definitely appreciate the input! Ill see if the guys want to get kayaks otherwise we will hit up.the marshes on the sides of the roads under a cork!
