Not really. "Off the grid" for most is not being in bed with city, state, or fed utilities. Basically, you supply your own power, water, etc.

Wouldn't owing a monthly bill to a controlled and taxed utility negate that?
Using HAM radio would be the work around to cellphones.

Power grid? Regarding cell phones: people have different meanings to the term. Some live in a 300sf cabin and they are completly shut off from the world. Others, like the lady in FL, want to reduce their bills and not pay their local govs.
