Audience Laughs at Shaheen for Ducking Question About Obama

Sen Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) was laughed at by the audience at the New Hampshire Senate Debate on Tuesday when she would not give a clear answer on whether she approved of the job President Obama is doing.
When asked to give a simple, yes or no response to a hypothetical pollster asking, “do you approve of the job President Obama is doing?” Shaheen responded, “in some ways I approve, and some things I don't approve,” a line that caused the audience to start laughing. She continued “like most questions that we deal with as policymakers there aren’t simple answers, yes or no.”
Shaheen was then asked how she could reconcile voting with the president 99% of the time and President Obama’s low approval rating in New Hampshire. She stated “I work for New Hampshire. And Scott Brown talks a lot about one survey and 99% of the time that I voted with the president,” before talking about her record getting a prison in New Hampshire opened, her work with residents who were facing foreclosure, and language she added to a veterans’ reform bill with Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH).
She then concluded, “what we need is a senator who’s going to work for New Hampshire, who;s going to make sure we address the concerns we hear from our constituents, who’s going to be willing to work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, anybody in Washington who can help us get the job done for this state.”
You vote with Obama 99% of the time.
Of course you approve. I don't understand why the democrats don't just admit they approve of the agenda.
"Did you vote for Obama"? Yes
"Do you support his agenda"? Yes
New Hampshire voters need to vote this coward out.

Because integrity is not a virtue that any democrat possesses.

You think Grimes looks better by not answering if she voted for Obama?
People aren't that stupid. You can't get away with that? I know why they don't want to say they support Obama but you can't hide so answer the question and move on.

What a count... When she looks at the camera and says "I work for NH", its laughable. Her smirk and mannerisms are so sleazy looking.

In the end game, possibly. Dems know that once they utter they voted for/supported Obama their R opponent will run that non stop in attack ads. Better to lose slow looking like a fool than lose fast admitting defeat (to them at least).

You sure about that?
The President is wildly unpopular (especially in states where Dems are vulnerable) but they are still making a show of it.

I mean, people keep telling me this race is 6-8 points for Shaheen but she looks terrible in this video. Scott Brown is a closer too, so by no means has Shaheen put this race away. She is stuttering over that simple question everyone knows is coming and she bombs, incredible.

It is a woman dem and the women dems will get their men to follow them. It is what it is. Men need to get a back bone.

I haven't even kept up with it... Just watching 2 min of that video shows everything that is wrong with DC.

They are already getting attacked on supporting Obama when they throw out you vote with Obama 99% of the time. It's the moments when you come off condescending that are the ads that hurt the most. Who thinks Shaheen gave an adequate answer? Grimes for that matter on the question of Obama?

Right, but when your opponent accuses you of something you don't admit it.
I'm talking strategy here, not honest discourse. Of course any serious American, Rep or Dem should laugh these idiots off the stage. The fact that they are still close races says more about the electorate than it does the candidates.

Yup, most voters are stupid... Hence why I wish that when people pulled the lever, they couldn't see the name/party of who they are voting for. Only their platform/voting record.
Would LOVE to see the mouth breathers pull the lever at that point.

I just find people dodging these question about the president should be disqualified by the public. I don't care if we are talking about republicans. These people are trying to be US Senators and cast votes on the presidents agenda. Answer the goddamn question.

I have less respect for people like that for not standing on their record and their convictions than for them just being a flaming liberal.
If it's your beliefs and record at least have the nuts to own it.

Now that's a good thought!

quote:It's like she doesn't understand that the federal agenda can hurt people at the state level. In her view, it's okay to cement her place in the Dem political machine by voting with Obama 99% of the time as long as she does a few state things like open a NH prison, even when she disagrees (she claims) with some of the policies.

I'm surprised there hasn't been, that I'm aware of at least, an experimental study that has looked at this. How much do people change their vote without the political party listed? I think it would be a fairly easy study to design with fairly obvious practical implications.
