There are no statistics.

It's just rhetoric from the people that haven't ever had a team to root for.

I say to MLB, it's high time you bring MLB to the Deep South.

God damnit.

Do it. I got five on it.

why would they? it would have to be an expansion, or moving out of Miami. Where would they go? Houston and Atlanta have well established franchises. Just move on dude. The deep south will never get a pro team

Why not put a team in NO?

That's about the only city I could think of that could support one, and based on the support of LSU baseball, it seems like it might work.

You don't know much about demographics or the average Louisiana's residents interest in MLB baseball. I feel safe saying there will never be an MLB team in New Orleans or Louisana for that matter

what are the Pelicans attendance figures? I've always just assumed they were well represented but I've never actually looked

It's weird, like I can't figure out why STL doesn't have an NBA team,

But OKC does.

Have you ever been to OKC?

It's a shithole.

But they somehow get an NBA team that just happens to have a generational great.

NO is close enough to Cuba, boat your asses over and find some players. Then go to New York and say, "Look, we got this.".

Boom, team.

College baseball is horrendous (TINK!!!) and yet it's easily the most popular sport amongst LSU fans.

NBA basketball is amazing - the best pro sports product out there - and nobody watches in the south.

I think it's pretty much hopeless.

Terrible. The bandwagon fans did well in the 2007 playoffs but that was it. The Hornets barely even sold out the first ever game in franchise history back in 2003 or whenever. Many of the playoff games in franchise history (v's 76ers, Heat, Nuggets) didn't sell out.

Many years the only true "sellout" is when Kobe or LeBron is in town.

I keep hearing about how baseball is dying. yet ratings, revenue, and attendance at the majority of major league parks are rising. Not to mention, if concussions are truly deterring youth football, that will only increase the participation in fall ball at the youth level
what exactly are these abundant statistics?

NY Times - Is the Game Dying?

quote:

Why has college baseball failed to attract any meaningful interest? Mostly because there are already so many professional baseball games to watch. Or not watch. (Earlier this month, an Astros game had a .04 Nielsen rating in the Houston area, which translates to about 1,000 viewers.)

Study shows MLB popularity now the same as MLS

quote:

The numbers are in and depending on your fandom, it’s good and bad. In a perfect world all the sports would be represented equally, but this isn’t a fairytale. By no means does this mean baseball is hurting and on the verge of folding, but the numbers can’t be encouraging if you are in the MLB office today. The time is now for the MLB to pull out all the stops as an attempt to save it’s sport to the younger audience.

Popularity gap between NFL and MLB widened

[quote]Since 1985, pro football’s popularity has increased by 11 percent while baseball has experience a nine percent decline in popularity.

Is America's pasttime dying?

quote:

Just last season, the MLB's television ratings reached an all-time low, collapsing by as much as 50 percent since the early 1990s. Likewise, the World Series, which for close to a century served as America's preeminent sporting event, had its lowest television rating in history. Even the vaunted Yankees are not immune, as the team's ratings dropped 39 percent just a season after plunging record lows.

People in the south don't like baseball. I'm watching Louisiana vs Arkansas State in college football instead, for example.

OKC got a nba team bc they supported the hornets so well there. I'd trade the Pelicans for anything else. Give us another minor league hockey team.

This is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The Milwaukee Bucks just sold for 600 million dollars and you're saying you'd rather have a dumbass IHL team that's worth $0.75 million and that would never make Sportscenter for even a second or bring any tourists/exposure/publicity to New Orleans? Really?

Because they went to the school they are cheering for. There is no other local team to cheer for. And they can attend college games.

you mean the same astros who have lost 90+ games for how many years in a row now?

It's just hard for me to see. I live in DFW, my dad has worked for the Rangers for 8 years now. and we've averaged over 30k for 4 years in a row if now more. Obviously big Friday night games being more represented than shitty Sunday afternoon games. But the per game average to me is more telling of the strength, and its strong in Arlington at least

I have an LSU degree and I'd just as soon cheer for the women's soccer team as the baseball team. Because nationally nobody gives a shite about either. So why would I?

I resent the hell out of our redneck fan base for loving baseball so much that it impedes our basketball program. #timbrandowasright
