Honestly, all jokes aside. What would make MLB more marketable in the South?

As much as you guys love college baseball, MLB is missing out.

Why not put a team in NO?

That's about the only city I could think of that could support one, and based on the support of LSU baseball, it seems like it might work.

What's stopping it?

The AAA team in Metairie can't draw a decent crowd and there isn't really room in New Orleans proper for a stadium. Plus I don't think there's really a market for MLB. It's pretty much Braves/Astros, with some Cubs/Cardinals sprinkled in and I don't see that changing.

Oh yeah, and it's too small of a market to support a team.

There is really not another metro area in the South besides Atlanta with a large enough population to support a MLB team for 81 home games a year. New Orleans can barely support the Hornets.

Take your pick

Population size
Big businesses
Avg. household income
Competition - other professional teams/collegiate sports
Etc.

What makes you think the south needs more teams? The Braves have a solid fan base here in Alabama, as well as Tennessee and the Carolinas. People in other parts of the region follow the Astros and Cards as well. You act like just because we don't have as many teams that people down here aren't MLB fans

It just seems to me that a team in NO, locks it up for MLB.

There are more weird roaming MLB fans around here from LA than from any other state.

The ironic part of it is that they have proven to be more baseball crazy than any of the other southern states. Just based on LSU alone.

It just seems like a fan base looking for a team to me.

That's what I was saying just explained better. Most everyone I know has an MLB team. There aren't enough Metro areas to warrant more teams. But baseball is plenty big in the South.

Family is everything in the South. And baseball is the ultimate family dad/son sport. It isn't going anywhere in the South.

I'd love to trade the Pelicans for an MLB team, but 81 home games is too many for a population center this size to support in any decent number.

Simply put, people just don't care about it. Statistics point to it that its literally a dying sport.

I'm not privy to how the NO metro works, but it's a big city, with several, no hundreds of rich white folks.

Rich white folks love football and baseball.

It will work.

I'll email the New York office tomorrow.

Cards fans have connections and such.

maybe in your immediate area.

I keep hearing about how baseball is dying. yet ratings, revenue, and attendance at the majority of major league parks are rising. Not to mention, if concussions are truly deterring youth football, that will only increase the participation in fall ball at the youth level

what exactly are these abundant statistics?
