Pitchers

Scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when Laird led off with a BB. Followed by a Bregman sac bunt and a rebat flyout to deep CF, moving Laird to 3rd. Stevenson then bunts back to the pitcher who throws home late, allowing Laird to score from 3rd.

Lange was really dealing today, striking out 2 batters each inning he pitched.

If Lange's numbers weren't so eye-popping we'd probably be praising Godfrey's stats tonight.

Today was the first time, this fall, that the pitchers went 4 innings. They both showed they were ready for it.

The upperclassmen better be working hard or we may end up with 2 freshies in the weekend rotation by sec play

Need a closer though. And it may be one of these freshman if he can prove he can throw strikes

Nobody likes to hear what PM said, except for you maybe, but regarding Mac leaving he said last week he had some players come to him after Mac left and tell him Mac saw he was really going to have to compete and he was not assured a weekend spot and it rattled him. The players thought that Mac was the #3 new arm among the arriving freshmen based on their "no coaches allowed" scrimmages after school started.

They didn't know if that played into his decision or not but......

I already thought this before today but that just solidifies my opinion, Alex Lange will be the Friday night starter for this team. I have only seen him throw in person once but that's all it takes to know he is the real deal. And then you see all of the pitchers walking together and he just looks like a MLB pitcher.

Jake Godfrey and Jake Latz will both probably be square in the middle of the Sunday spot in the rotation as well, although I would expect several people to get opportunities in game action before anyone is settled upon.
