Marathon thread got me thinking. Some people don't consider people who "run" a marathon to be actually running. They call it jogging. But that's just a type of running, right?

Is there a cutoff for you? Does "running" have to mean sprinting? How fast to you have to be moving to "run" a mile? 8:30 pace? 6:00 pace?

Potayto Potahto

Seriously though, if you're not walking then you are running. A jog is normally considered a slow run, but it's still running. Anyone that bickers over this is just a contrarian dickhole.

No, that's fully retarded.

Who jog's anyway? Didn't that term go out with parachute pants and perm's?

It went out when the apostrophe came back with a vengeance.

I believe it's jogging or yogging, it might be a soft j. I'm not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

Running for some people is sub 5 minute mile while for others it's sub 10 minutes. When I was young I would snicker at people that said they ran 7 minute mile pace for a 5k. For me, in my yute, 7 mins was jogging. Now I would consider it running.

I've always called it running, but I agree you'll have someone usually a speedster disagree. Do you have to climb Mt. Everest to be a climber?

There is definitely a cutoff. However, where exactly you draw the line is subjective.

Go to a major half-marathon and you will see a number of people towards the end who literally walked the entirety of the 13.1 miles.

I assure you, there are very few people that actually run a race of that length. Now a 5k on the other hand...

I'd say that sub 6-minute splits constitute as running because that would be a PR in a single mile for the majority of the population.

jogging = running recreationally/not "training".

running = sport. You are training for an end goal.

Long distance runners usually look like they have AIDS, so I'd stay away from that activity. Their physique (generally) just looks shitty IMO

Marathoners usually look like shite. Ultramarathoners tend to have more bulk/muscle to them.

I'd rather do sprints than long distance running, personally.

I agree with your premise. But the guy on the left didn't get that physique from sprinting. The guy on the right, DID get that physique from distance running, though.

If you can carry a conversation, you are jogging

That is how I define it

So I'm jogging the first 16 miles and running the last 10. Got it.

Sabi, I'm built more for sprinting. Got into long distance because the wife loves it and it's a challenge. Helps to keep me active too

Its not your lungs that quit those last 10, its your legs

I just don't want to talk to anyone at that point.

It's my core that feels weak. I have pretty strong legs, but since I stopped playing baseball it's been a struggle to keep my lower back and obliques in shape while running so much with training.
