It is. A lot of people just assume that I'm being pessimistic when I say that but I don't think it is. I'm unfathomably lucky to be where I am just in the terms of existence. I find looking at it that way gives me a better outlook on my life and makes me a better person in general.

I do the same. When I'm feeling anxious or down about something I'll watch space shows on Netflix to remind me how insignificant I am. It's truly enlightening.

Anyone want to really get mind fricked?

There are more possible games of chess than atoms in the observable universe.

Yeah it is oddly comforting. Kind of epitomizes the "be thankful for every moment" mentality.

Not when I'm playing. But that is mind-boggling.

What I've always found fascinating was that this is just the beginning. Inner space, if you will. The title given, "The Known Universe" is merely referencing the observable universe. We still don't know what lies beyond the cosmic horizon, light STILL hasn't had enough time in the billions of years to make it to us for us to see yet. True outer space. Whoa.

Gah, just think about unobservable space...

Think about this..basically our whole civilization and recorded history came after the last ice age and the glaciers receded.

In 10,000 years...look at what we have accomplished. Yeah..we have been evolving for over 2 million years, but lets look at everything that has been done in the past 10k years. That is everything and all civilizations basically.

and creationist say we've been here for 7k years. I don't believe it...still interesting.

Does anyone know of any other sites or blogs who have articles/posts like this? Real people going to real places and talking about real issues/events? Rather than the useless crap that one usually finds on news shows and sites.

(Disclaimer-I've only read the very beginning of the article)

I believe in the multiverse theory. Basically we are are part of a series of universes bending on top of one another.

I think it is possible we are the only intelligent life in existence at this point in time. There may have been some before and there may be some later. I think it is safe to say there is no other intelligent life in the universe and science will not prove me wrong in my lifetime.

I have no problem believing that an unknown force set everything in motion and made life possible. Note, I do not believe it is a guy with a long beard in the clouds.

Finally, while we are on acid trip topics, time travel is not possible because time is a fiction.
