Talk about missing the fricking point.

I remember having homework every night at that age....but my parents made that be the first thing we did when we got home. You wanted to go play with friends or watch tv....do your homework first.

You didn't have that much homework. So do your homework as soon as you get home and go play at 8:00?

My cousin is a teacher in EBR, and she said that teachers are mandated by the school principals to give homework in every subject, every night

FWIW, it's probably higher up than the Principal. When we were state audited for scores a couple years ago one of the things we got marked on was our Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council didn't have a "strong enough" homework policy that mandated homework on at least a 3 night basis.

But unfortunately when people continue to vote folks in on local, state, and federal levels that think teaching to a test is the gold-standard instead of giving kids skills that will help them function as a member of society whether they intend to go to college or not this is the kind of stuff you get. Less recess, more mandated homework, ever changing curriculum, and so on.

To an extent..The methods get the same answers, just in a different way

There is an extensive list of Common Core approved materials from which Common Core schools select.

That list is full of bad material.

A short nap in the early to middle afternoon can bring a renewed sense of energy and alertness. A nap in the late afternoon or early evening, on the other hand, can disrupt your sleep cycle and make it difficult to fall asleep when you retire for the night.

To benefit most from a nap, take it no later than mid-afternoon and keep it under 30 minutes. If you nap for a longer period, your body lapses into a deeper phase of sleep, which can leave you feeling groggy when you awaken. If you are severely sleep deprived and can't go on without a nap, it is better to sleep for a longer time to allow yourself to go through one complete sleep cycle. An average sleep cycle takes about 90 minutes in most people.

I know those links are for adults, but the principle also applies to kids. Naps are an important part but should be earlier in the afternoon.

For example, this week she has 4 test to study for, math homework every night, social studies homework every night, reading every night, english assignment every night, and a science assignment two nights this week. And on top of all that shite she has to prepare a powerpoint presentation and give a 5 minute lecture on the material.
Scruffy agrees that this is child abuse.

There is no reason kids that age should live in a system like that. It appears to Scruffy that it is designed to make cubicle workers out if children.

Our education system is EXTREMELY poorly designed. It needs to be reworked from top to bottom.

homework just seems like such lazy teaching

I remember being in school and asking a teacher that gave a lot of homework if the homework was for learning or not.

If it was for learning, why is she getting paid and if it was not for learning why was I doing it?

She did not find the humor in that like I did.

I had homework every night. Yes, you may be right in that I didn't have as much homework as the OP's child.

Again though....did he ever say where his child is right after school? Cause if she is in aftercare...why couldn't she start on her homework there? Tgr made a good point...in 4th grade you shouldn't need your parents standing over you to help out with all of your homeowork.

Maybe the child is getting way too much homework. I just get the feeling OP is leaving out info.
