the soapy water isn't a bad option when in a pinch, the more soap the better. Wasps, ants, bees and such have an exoskeleton which they breathe through and the soapy water is suffocating them

This!

There ain't no way in hell I am tackling yellow jackets with anything other than gasoline at night. They are the spawn of Satan and will sting your arse for the fun of it!

This!! If you have access to pcv pipe, just stick that end in the ground nest and pour the gas in that way. Found a nasty nest once and couldn't get close enough (had to do it during the daytime due to kids playing in the area), so I just got a long piece of pipe, jammed one end into the nest and poured the gas in...funny thing, I could hear them bastards buzzing in the pipe. Didn't hear a sound after that.

If you kick it enough times, the yellow jackets will respect you and leave your property.

Does one actually have to light the gasoline? I've heard it done both ways.

No. My Uncle Pete tried this and blew a crater in his back yard. Killed the 'jackets, though.

Get Wasp Spray that is oil based; not water based. Spray nest when the wasps are on the nest. Destroy nest. You're welcome.

I am not sure why gasoline didn't work...I have never had a single one come out of the hole after I poured the gasoline in...maybe you didn't use enough...

I may have spoken too soon. As the day has gone on, a swarm has grown around the nest. And they are pissed. Must have been a mother of a nest. I didn't get to flip over the second entrance point. Probably have to go back for another round tomorrow.
