Is it time for the Saints to get serious about Brees' replacement?

He becomes FA in 2017 - is the upcoming draft a good time to trade up and get his replacement? He appears to be entering tdecline (though still the best in the pathetic NFC South) from the games I've watched and this is confirmed by Saints Talk - I assume the fans over there are mostly diehards and have been watching him closely. Seems like everyone agrees he is no longer elite.

I wouldnt focus on it this offseason. His decision making is the biggest question mark, not his arm.

Someone to groom or someone to replace him immediately?

They need to either demand he renegotiate his horrendous contract or draft his replacement and force him out in 2 years.

He's perfect for this - seasoned veteran with a Superbowl ring. Would be a dream for any upcoming QB that has enough sense to accept the backseat for a few years (as in, not Jameis)

Will the Saints ever suck enough to get a QB of that caliber? Or are we banking on a steal later in the draft (ie, getting lucky)?

He's not elite anymore. That's easy for anybody to see.

Hell no. Never trade up for a QB.

I don't love the idea of trading up, ever.

But how will they get a replacement without riding Brees to the very bottom? I have a feeling Saints fans will not be satisfied with a mediocre QB after being spoiled for years with Brees.

I'm sure there'll be a few solid QBs in the 2nd/3rd round.

Honestly I'd rather build the defense up and the O line for now.

This will never happen. He was a member of the NFLPA's executive committee. Taking a pay cut would be considered breaking rank with the union, which he won't do.

That's actually what is being said on Saints Talk but I decided to tone it down a bit for my thread.

EDIT: I also sort of gave him props for still being best in NFCS even though he is looking at tDecline.
