Right.
Obviously following intubation, risk of aerosol production would be dramatically reduced.

I never said you did. I was just commenting that you don't need a PhD in virology or something like that to understand this simple concept.

no, you dont. But the best qualified poster here to speak on virus generational mutation is Volvagia. Whether you believe it or not...its true.

Oh I'm not denying that. I don't know much about Volvagia, but I would love to hear his perspective on all this.

Right.
That is an erroneous report attributing CIDRAP Recommendations to the CDC. Those are not the CDC Recs.

Again CBSnews and erroneous.

Apropos to CDC Ebola recommendations from the CDC link in your article
quote:

Droplet Precautions
Apply to patients known or suspected to be infected with a pathogen that can be transmitted by droplet route:

Place the patient in an exam room with a closed door as soon as possible (prioritize patients who have excessive cough and sputum production); if an exam room is not available, the patient is provided a facemask and placed in a separate area as far from other patients as possible while awaiting care.

PPE use:

Wear a facemask, such as a procedure or surgical mask, for close contact with the patient; the facemask should be donned upon entering the exam room

If substantial spraying of respiratory fluids is anticipated, gloves and gown as well as goggles (or face shield in place of goggles) should be worn

Perform hand hygiene before and after touching the patient and after contact with respiratory secretions and contaminated objects/materials; note: use soap and water when hands are visibly soiled (e.g., blood, body fluids)

Instruct patient to wear a facemask when exiting the exam room, avoid coming into close contact with other patients, and practice respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette

Clean and disinfect the exam room accordingly (refer to Section IV.F.4.)

CDC recommends considering a respirator only for actual airborne pathogens. Ebola does not meet that spec IAW CDC terminology/definition.

here both of you go

quote:

After two nurses in Dallas tested positive for Ebola after helping to care for Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian who died of the disease last week, federal health officials decided to tighten the guidelines for American hospitals with Ebola patients.

quote:

Many hospitals, including those in the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System and the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha — one of four facilities in the country with biocontainment units equipped to isolate patients with dangerous infectious diseases — have long had more stringent guidelines than the C.D.C.

I can't get the words to post by the pic. Can anybody help a brother out, the pic is in the link? gracias

This was not really true. Look in the WHO thread

The WHO? The ones that acknowledged that they botched this whole thing up?

quote:

The World Health Organization has admitted that it botched attempts to stop the now-spiraling Ebola outbreak in West Africa, blaming factors including incompetent staff and a lack of information.

"Nearly everyone involved in the outbreak response failed to see some fairly plain writing on the wall," WHO said in a draft internal document obtained by The Associated Press, noting that experts should have realized that traditional containment methods wouldn't work in a region with porous borders and broken health systems.

The U.N. health agency acknowledged that, at times, even its own bureaucracy was a problem. It noted that the heads of WHO country offices in Africa are "politically motivated appointments" made by the WHO regional director for Africa, Dr. Luis Sambo, who does not answer to the agency's chief in Geneva, Dr. Margaret Chan.

This is hilarious, you should trust the CDC because they're "experts"....

But actual research scientists in infectious disease...they're LIARS!

The CDC clearly has some issues, but you're fricking insane if you don't think the CDC is still the preeminent infectious disease entity on the planet.

In the New England journal of Medicine they reported at least four people who contracted ebola never had any direct contact with any infected people.

This is the problem the thick headed libs have.

This virus has a 70 percent death rate whilst the flu has a death rate in the fractional margins.

If only 4000 Americans catch this you are looking at 2800 deaths ( the same amount as 9/11 basically ) and all because out politically correct president and his liberal friends know better than everyone else.

Anyone here saying this can't spiral out of control is full of crap, and if it does this president needs to be charged with a crime.

5 kids have already died of viruses brought to the U.S. by illegal aliens.

In Africa?

Yes ok, the study that I have linked multiple times says it can be transmitted from pig to primate via fomites or from eating bat.

The problem with the cdc and presby hospital and the such is that they are run by politicians instead of physicians.

You have a point about the CDC, but Texas Presbyterian and hospitals like it are run by beancounters, which clearly bring their own set of problems to a situation like this. When political considerations or the bottom line trump patient considerations, quality of care suffers. And, in the case of Ebola, public safety.
