Continuing a seemingly ceaseless burst of Friends nostalgia that’s been going since the tenth anniversary of the sitcom’s finale, Netflix announced that the entire series’s run will be available for streaming beginning January 1, 2015.

It’s a major deal, given the popularity of the NBC sitcom to this day, not to mention the sheer volume of episodes involved. (Despite the fact that TBS always seems to be airing the same few episodes, there were 236 installments of the show.) Friends is widely available on syndicated television, but given the wide variations in tone season to season, the opportunity to choose whether to watch a low-drama episode where the gang hangs out or one from the height of the Rachel-Ross-Joey love triangle is a significant boon to Friends devotees.
Netflix’s original offerings have tended to prompt so-called binge viewing due to their sheer volume of incident. House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black both rely on cliff-hangers and twisty plots that compel viewers to watch the next episode. But given the excitement around Friends hitting the streaming service, it’s not hard to imagine the exact opposite sort of television being just as binge-able. Friends is at its best when little of consequence is happening, in the long stretches of episodes where they’re all bickering over apartments or cleaning philosophies. It’s extremely comfortable and comforting TV — the sort that will lend itself perfectly to hours of consecutive watching this winter.

That's huge for Netflix...
And must have cost a fortune. Certainly the most wanted show next to Seinfeld I would think.

Huge for me and my wife too. Most night we would watch an episode or two before bed, but the TV in our room crapped out, and my laptop doesn't like to play DVD's. I got an all-caps text from her about this a few minutes ago

Now bring back South Park to replace Friends Feb. 1, 2015.

I know it is ultra popular, but couldn't you watch/record about 6 episodes of friends a day if you wanted?

Would much rather Seinfeld.

JUST WANT SEINFELD.
I own every episode of Seinfeld. Christmas present from my folks back in college.
I'm pretty excited about Friends. I caught the one where Chandler confesses to everyone he loves Monica on TBS and realized I don't think I've seen that one since it aired.

I won't speak ill of Seinfeld, and for the most part I liked the show, but I could only take it in small doses. Every one of those characters would just annoy me at some point and it just wasn't fun watching.
And Seinfeld is a crap actor.

Bunch of a-hole characters having a-hole discussions about how to be bigger assholes to the rest of the world.
Pass
Pass

That's why everyone loved it. We're all assholes who have a-hole discussions about being assholes

Not sure why, but I quit watching the reruns after the show ended.

It hit me one time watching it on TBS. "These people are really just selfish jerks."
Which granted is a "duh" statement, but I started to kind of loath every character, especially Kramer. I dunno. Maybe it was just the "New York Way" they were portraying.
