True story. A couple years after college I got some LSU student tickets and needed an ID. I went gave them a buddy's name and got my picture taken for an ID with his name on it. Used it that season to get into the student section.
That makes my point exactly. But some in this thread are upset that they can't be used to vote. Hmmm, I wonder why.

What could possibly be the motivation of folks who don't want college students to vote but do want gun owners to vote?
Don't be such a tool. If the student is properly registered to vote, then that means the student has at least ONE of the acceptable forms of ID and doesn't need to use the student ID.
A student ID only proves that one is a student in the state of Texas, not a RESIDENT/CITIZEN, which is the requirement to vote.

Your logic will not work on them. Logic is a thing of the past.

can someone explain to me how these laws are racist?
It's only racial insofar as a single race predominates the affected class.
Many would claim that coincidence is not accidental though.
Charging for a voter ID is stupid.

Actually it doesn't prove anything. As I proved, there are no consistent safeguards in the student ID process to verify that the person represented on the ID is the person in the picture.
I have a state ID, a drivers license, and a CHL. All of which were issued by state agencies and subject to stringent standards by which I had to prove my identity.
All I did get the student ID was give a buddy's name and I may have memorized his Social Security number. I'm pretty sure the people that took my picture and process the ID were students.

Nearly 25 percent of African-Americans currently do not have a valid photo ID necessary to vote, according to a recent study by the Brennan Center for Justice, the non-partisan public policy and law institute at New York University’s School of Law.
I don't believe that for a moment and if it is true then how do so many of them get guns without proper ID? How do they cash their checks without ID? How do they drive cars? Apply for jobs? Go to the Democratic National Convention?
