While the Centers, or CDC, is well funded, much of the money has been diverted from programs to fight infectious diseases and directed to "programs far afield from the CDC's original purpose," such as the Prevention and Public Health Fund, Jindal writes in "The Facts About Ebola Funding."
This fund receives annual mandatory appropriations created by Obamacare, according to Jindal, who notes that despite nearly $3 billion the CDC has received from the fund over the past five years, just 6 percent went toward building epidemiology and lab capacity.
"Especially given the agency's postwar roots as the Communicable Disease Center, one would think that 'detecting and responding to infectious diseases and other public health threats' warrants a larger funding commitment," Jindal writes.
He points out that the community transformation grant program received three times as much money as what was appropriated to fight infectious disease.

I mean isn't prevention and awareness also important to control the spread of disease?
I see the point of the article, but still.

Not content with politicizing the Justice Department, the IRS, and other Federal Agencies, they now go the CDC.
This is from the "throw anything against the wall, and see what sticks" school of politics.

Don't folk need good sidewalks to travel on whilst they spread disease around and such?
Wouldn't want them to sprain an ankle for crying out loud.

In the midst of the Ebola crisis, the Obama administration has no business spending hundreds of millions of dollars for the Centers for Disease Control to fund "non-essential" programs that give grants for things like improving sidewalks and street lighting, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal writes in an opinion piece for Politico.
Ebola crisis?
Jindal has lost all credibility.
The CDC isn't even in the COnstitution. If he were a real Conservative he would favor repealing it entirely.

No.
Zero.

UHh - except they should only protect our health in the way conservatives approve of. Says so in the Constitution.

The dept of defense is executing an enumerated power of Congress. Congress HAS NO ENUMERATED POWER TO FIGHT DISEASE - therefore the CDC is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. I'd rather die from Ebola than get treatment from those COMMIE THUGS.

Water is wet.
A baseball is round.
I can't think if any governmental organization that isn't political, be it Federal Government under the Obama Administration, State Government under the Jindal Administration, or some local government agency driven by a mayor or parish president.

Contracting a deadly plague ( not counting HIV cause majority of cases are contracted during consensual intercourse) is a completely different ball game than supporting those with illnesses ( even life threatening ones) that stem from lifelong poor health decisions and refusal to seek preventative care (the conditions which generally end up costing the most over time and thus be a burden on the taxpayer)
I work in an ER and I can tell you that healthcare is very available to those too indigent to pay. The problem is that those people are usually too ignorant to utilize the resources already available. Instead they just troll the emergency room
