Idk what this means
your G3 is now an open book. you can think of it as a blank slate on which you can do any and everything you want.
before the carriers had some locking in place preventing full unfettered access to the heart of your phone.
BUT NO MORE I TELL THEE
eta unlike Apple, once the phone is unlocked & rooted..it STAYS unlocked and rooted forever. no software update shenanigans will neuter your phone going forward.

What's the best/easiest way to back up my LG G3 before I try all of this rooting and unlocking? I want a fallback option if I screw something up. Android newbie here. TIA

Theres a thread on xda about how to get back to stock if you need to. Just root and do the bump unlock. Very easy. Once you root and unlock, make a backup first and foremost. Just hit up xda forums for the g3. There are plenty of guides to walk you through everything. Plenty of help over there.
