I'm going down to New Orleans for the Paul McCartney concert this Saturday and I'm staying somewhere around Mid City. In order to avoid paying outrageous parking fees, my girlfriend and I decided to take the street car down to the CBD and then walk to the Smoothie King Center.

How late do the lines run and is there anything to be concerned about when taking the streetcar late on a weekend night?

Mid City line is 24 hours, as long as you don't mind waiting upwards of an hour when it inexplicably doesn't show up.

ETA: LINK

It looks like it may stop running for two hours (3 AM-5 AM). Never knew that.

I appreciate it, man. I figured there might be some waiting involved, but it beats the hell out of paying 20-30 dollars to park down there.

Just be prepared to stop every fricking 10 seconds. Also make sure you stand so you don't have somebodies arse or giblets in your face the whole ride (if it's crowded)

You must not value your time much. It's gonna take you forever to do that.

Why not park for free in the CBD and walk 1/2 mile?

20 Years ago my wife and i jumped off the car on the way back to the quarter from Tulane. Walked about a block into a neighborhood bar and had a beer. Ordered a second, and the bar tender said: "No. Sun is going down and you have just enough time to catch the next car and get to safety". We obeyed.

Exciting stuff for Midwesterners.

We're heading down there pretty early so that we can grab dinner before the show. She really liked the idea of riding the street car so it seemed like a win-win.

I don't mind walking at all, but where can you park for free around the CBD?

Street parking is free after 6.

If she wants to ride the streetcar then take it when you head into the cbd, take a taxi after. Hotel on Loyola just off poydras has taxis on the regular. Not a far walk from tge arena, and most people will be walking that way toward tge quarter so you won't be walking alone. Not that it's dangerous in that particular location.

Are you sure about that?

You're going to think that I have a problem with my reading comprehension but I paid to park for an hour in a paid lot after 8 on a Saturday and when I showed back up at around 11 they had booted my car and it cost $100 to get it removed. Mind you, I was a few blocks off of Canal behind the Saenger. Why would street parking be free but not the lots?

Plus, a NOPD officer told me that they'll even tow people on the streets at night if the meter isn't covered for the entire time.

I would go for a cab ride home, the late nighters on that one can be a little interesting.

I do believe that street parking is free after 6 PM. I just wouldn't want to drive if planning on getting drinks, etc. There's nothing to worry about safety-wise on the Mid City streetcar line. Cabs are also an option, of course.

Parking on the street is free in the CBD after 6 pm.

I would rather park and walk or cab it then taking the streetcar. The Mid-City street doesnt have the nice views like the St. Charles streetcar. Also you are going to have to walk to Canal St which is pretty sketchy late at night and possible wait in the neutral ground for the streetcar to come by.

Lots are privately owned. Street is city. The meter is free from 6pm-8am. And all day Sunday. So if you pay until 6 on Saturday you could leave your car until Sunday before you head home free. I lived in the cbd

And nopd has nothing to do with parking tickets. They don't give them out. They are entirely separate. The boot you got in the lot had even less to do with them than anything. That lot is owned and run by greedy assholes. I paid $10 for 4 hours in a lot, put in a $20 and it wouldn't give me change. I came back and someone had backed into my car. They didn't give me my $10 change and aren't responsible for damage. frick them.

This. It's a fun street car ride in. Pain in the arse if there is a big crowd after a show, etc.

It's not hard at all to find CBD street parking in the evening, but if you are drinking, just do the street car/cab idea.

Streetcar there and cab back. Cab should only be $15.
