Ringo Starr All Starr Band

I'm going tonight at Cynthia Woods Pavilion in The Woodlands.
Anyone ever seen them perform??
From the reviews and You Tube clips it looks like a good time.
Great concert last night. We had great seats (Row 5) stage left in front of Todd Rundgren.
IMO the best songs were the 3 Santana tunes (Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman, Evil Way)-these rocked the hardest and Steve Lukather lit it up on guitar. The Toto songs were well done too although I never was into them.
The Todd Rundgren songs were OK-he's just one weird dude..
The Mr. Mister songs were pretty lame.
Of course the crowd loved the Ringo/Beatles songs-especially the Yellow Submarine sing-a-long.
Lukather is a great guitar player and it looks like he really enjoyed letting it loose. Gregg Rolie was cool behind the keys-him and Lukather were messing with each other the entire concert. Richard Page, Warren Ham, and Gregg Bissonette are very professional. Ringo was the bandleader and MC and let the guys stretch out during their songs.
All in all a great, fun concert.

People crap on Ringo and while he is my least favorite Beatle he seems to legitimately enjoy playing music and seems to have a fun time on the road playing for the fans. Also, while he may not be the best songwriter, Ringo does have a quick wit and he is very funny. Should be a great time, enjoy.

FTFY - and, FTR, Ringo is probably my favorite Beatle.

He was sloppy, technically, but I do give him credit - he really had a feel for what the Beatles needed on the drums - for all of his musical genius, Sir Paul (can play almost any instrument, fairly well) was not an outstanding bass player - don't get me wrong, his genius even shines through on this instrument. Paul only played the bass because no one else in the band was even competent to make more than a hash of it.
If they'd found a great bass player after Best left, Paul would have moved to the drums, almost certainly.
Paul was probably as good as George on lead, a better rhythm guitar player than John, and a way better drummer than Ringo. And, by far, the best pianist. But he was the only bassist in the band.

Agree to disagree. I think he was outstanding.

uhhhhhhhhh
perhaps you've never heard a little song called I Saw Her Standing There?
listen to it, then imagine playing that bass line and singing harmonies at the same time

I said, even so, his genius occasionally shined through on the instrument. And part of this is because they had to keep much of the rythm work simple because of Ringo's technical limitations and Paul's singing duties - it may be, somewhat, of a perspective thing.

No question, he is one of the great musicans of all time. I'm just not sold on his being a virtuoso on any instrument, particularly the bass. His bass and lead guitar work were very, very influential, without a doubt.
I mean, it's not a knock on John Fogerty or Steve Winwood to say, "Not outstanding on anything, but capable on every instrument a rock band plays" - really, out of the great multi-instrumentalists of the past 50 years, Prince stands out as a literal Top 10 guitarist, plus is capable on 20+ other instruments.
And all these cats can sing, too. Another example would be John Paul Jones - although I consider him a legendary bass player, this is as much based on the songs and his influence (Ramble On is pretty badass, though) - not necessarily the bass genius that Entwistle was (by comparison, anyway), but he could play guitar and bass pedals at the same time and sing backup.
My brain can't even map out how to do that.

Saw them just outside of Memphis back in July. Going again next week in Biloxi.
This All Starr Band is one of his best. Not super big names that grab you like in the past, but tight. Very tight.

I saw them years ago at Chastain Park. It was a great, well played show. It was comical watching the season ticket holders sip their Chardonnay and talk during pretty much the entire show, until Yellow Submarine was played, at which time they all stood with their arms around each other and sang along and swayed. Then promptly returned to their conversations and wine. fricking yuppies...
